Billabong S.A Champs - Kommetjie

Whyyy is Cape Town so cold! I'm sitting at home in durban now, and its 25 degrees and I'm getting cold just thinking about it. haha.
I made my way back to the Cape Town side of the world for the second time this month. I stayed with my wonderful little friends, Tarryn and Cameron in their cute little flat in town.

Wednesday:
Tarryn and Heidi make cookies (Heidi burns them).
We found out at the opening function that the girls won't be surfing until Friday.

Thursday:
Went to long beach with Nikita and Tarryn to support our teams. KZN yeeewww.

Friday:
Coldest, windiest, rainiest (I'm making up words, it was that bad) day of the year - of course the girls are surfing. haha. The water at Long Beach was warmer than the air, so I didn't mind getting into my wetsuit too much.. Surfed a few heats at small long beach, and made it into semis :)

Saturday:
The sun came out, yaay! ha. I sat on the beach for most of the day, taking advantage of the fact that I only had to wear one jacket for a change. ha. I didn't have to surf any heats so I watched the KZN boys surf, and then watched a pretty sunset before I made my way to Fishermans with a few people to watch some old family garage band sing cover songs. I enjoyed it, I think.

Sunday:
Tarryn and I made out way to Misty Cliffs for the contest because Long Beach wasn't breaking. I was nervous to surf my heat because I had a pretty hard heat with Tanika and Holly, and Misty's was looking a bit scary. ha. The waves turned out to be pretty fun, and the water was warm! I got a few decent waves and came 2nd and made it to the finals. Jeeees, the final was one of the most intense finals I've surfed in a long time. It was so close but I was lucky enough to get a few fun ones and I won the u20 girls! Yeeewww, Happy happy female. Its my first S.A title ever :) Sat on the  beach and watched a few more heats and Tarryn's final before we went to Fishermans for prize giving. Ooooh and KZN came 2nd overall. Western Province is still yet to lose at home. gah. One day. hahah.

Monday:
Back home to sunshine, warm water and a pretty new board to draw on!

I made the mistake again of not taking my camera to the beach. ha. ooops. So here's some more stolen photo's:

Bloodscan contest - Jbay

I flew to P.E the day after my real birthday to surf the Bloodscan/Industry Cup event in Jbay. It was my first contest of the year so I was really excited but nervous at the same time. We didn't get any good waves for the contest - actually the waves were non-existent, ha. Despite the tiny waves everyone was surfing really well. I had Tanika and Holly in most of my heats throughout the event. I made it to the u20 girls final with Tanika Hoffman, Emma Smith and Gina Smith. I got a 2nd and I'm happy, it's a cool way to end off my birthmonth celebrations :) Well done to Tank for winning! :) Thanks to Bloodscan for such a cool event. I hope theres another one next year! It was also nice seeing and hanging out with my friends that I don't see too often except for at contests.

I decided to go to Cape Town for a few days after Jbay. I did a mini roadtrip back to CT with Chris Bond and Ashley. I didn't get to surf too often, the waves were pretty terrible expect for my one surf at Dunes with Mikey Feb, Josh Salie and Mr Bond. I had a cool time in CT, I acted like a tourist a few times. I'm going back again soon for S.A senior champs! Hopefully theres actual waves! hah :)

I wish I took more photo's in Jbay, but anyway here's a few photo's - Some are mine, some I stole:

Cape Town - Vic Bay

CAPE TOWN:
I went to Cape Town in August to surf the Western Province Open. I was kind of excited to surf a contest - it had been a while, and I'd been trying to train for it. ha. I stayed in Table View with Heather, Nikita and Tash for the first few days, just to be close to the contest.

Day 1, Friday : I arrived at Cape Town International airport at 8am. I thought that everyone else was arriving at that time too. It turned out that they were only coming at 8pm. haaa. Anyway... I got a shuttle to the accommodation with the most talkative driver in the world. It was right on the beach but it was freezing and the waves were terrible, so I spent the day reading, watching TV, and lurking next to a heater. After such a stressful day, I managed to find the energy to go on a food hunt. The mall was quite a distance away so I tried the restaurant at the accommodation, called the Blowfish. It just wasn't doing it for my high standards. I looked at a menu and realised that i could probably walk to the mall in the time I would need to answer the waiter's 1000 questions : What meat do you want? Which cut would you prefer? How many grams would you like? How would you like it done? blaah blaah and all of that rubbish. He kindly sent me away when I asked for a toasted sandwich...

Day 2, First day of the contest: The contest was held at Table View and the waves weren't looking too bad. I made it through my heats! :) Yay. Spent the day with Tarryn, Sarah, Faye, Chantelle and Tanika, most of the time just eating at Primi. haha. Ty came to visit :)

Day 3, Last Day of the contest: Rain, wind and hideous weather. We woke up early and had to drive through to melkbos because some rather large swell decided to come hang out. It was the most messy and hideous conditions I'd ever seen. Siesa... I was first heat of the day and I got knocked out. I only caught a proper wave with 2 minutes left in the heat. It didn't end well, but I think I learnt from it. I hope. ha.
Melkbos
Day 4, SSA girls training camp: Surfing South Africa organised a womens training camp for 16 of us at Sports Science. I was having a heart attack because I'd never been to Sports Science before, and everyone telling me how hard it was didnt help at all... It didnt turn out too bad, even though we got there at 8am and left at 6pm. I'd like to go again one day and hopefully do better though.
When we finally got back, Tarryn and I tried to convince everyone to come out with us. They were being lame. haha. David took Tarryn and I out to The Shack and Mercury for Jono's birthday. It was fun :)

WOODSTOCK, GORDON'S BAY, MUIZENBERG:
I spent a few days with Ty while I was in Cape Town. Ty, Jay, Simon, and Jayson were all moving into a new house in Muizenberg so I just helped them move a few things around. ha. This meant carting stuff from Simons woodstock house to Gordon's bay to store it for a few days, and then back to Muizenberg to finally move in. Missssions, but it was still cool :) They've now moved into their Muizenberg house and its amaaazing!

VIC BAY:
I'd been stressing for a few days about how on earth I was going to get to Vic Bay from Cape Town for the Billabong Junior Contest. I finally made a plan, and roadtripped with Chantelle and QJ to Vic Bay. We hadn't seen eachother for a while and spoke for 4 hours straight. haha :)

The Vic Bay contest has always been one of my favourites. Its always so much fun and even though it's the smallest place in the world, you'll always find a way to keep entertained. I stayed in the Vic Bay Surf Backpackers again this year, I like staying there because it's right on the promenade and close to everyone else. I saw Morag for the first time in ages and I thought I was going to cry when I saw her I was so happy! :)

For the contest there was some of the biggest swell I'd ever seen before. It was maaasssiiivveee. I heard a group of guys say the one wave was over 12ft. yaaay. So of course there had to be a few lay days, but luckily the swell calmed down (not really at all) on the last day so they could finish the contest. I made the final and came 3rd. I would've liked a better result, but heeey. It was still a good event...

At night, just to keep up with Vic Bay tradition, everyone got together for a few drinks and to chill. Billabong organised a little braai in the caravan park one night which was amazing - They got Jeremy Loops to come play (too good!) for an hour or two, and afterwards a group of us ended up going to Carouse. Sis.

Ok I'm sick of rambling now. I'm sure you get by now that it was a good trip.

And so it begins. Again.

Dear Blog,

Ok so I've got about 4 or 5 unfinished posts just lurking in the dark corners of the drafts page. It's been 3 months since I've updated you, you sad little thing... It's not that I don't want to hang out with you, it's just that I forget sometimes. I typed out a post from New Years; from my little roadtrip; from Tarryn's 21st; from cave rock, and what not, but they aren't quite complete. It's not my fault. You and I just don't agree on some things. You see, I'm a bit of a perfectionist, and when you don't let me put my pictures where I want to, I get annoyed and give up on you, which ends up with, well, nothing.

So now this is what is going to go down. I'm going to update you on a regular basis, but I'm going to just cancel the few drafts from the last couple months because I'm being a brat now. There's always photo's on facebook..

In spite of my annoyance and this little rant, I still like you.
I'll even leave a random collection of pictures for you.
Let's try spark our romance again.

Raaa Raaaa

I went on a 2 month roadtrip with my parents around our pretty country. It was amazing! I had 3 contests to surf, so we just made a roadtrip out of it.

Here's a slideshow with some of the pics. It's all backwards though! The rest are on facebook :

We started in East London for the Mr Price Open, then made our way to Knysna. I got a 3rd in the Billabong Pro Junior in Vic Bay. My parents camped in Buffels Bay while I was in Vic Bay. From Knysna we went to Mcgregor and Robertson, it was nice to go inland for a change. Mcgregor is the cutest little town ever - and it really is little. It took us about 15 minutes to walk through the whole town!
We spent a few days in Mouille Point in Cape Town so I could see my frrrriiieeennddd... He's nice :) ha.

We'd never been to the West Coast, and we stayed in Elands Bay for 12 days before we had to go back to Kommetjie for S.A Champs... Elands is amazing! That left is so fun, but I don't think I'd like to live there until i'm about 72. I don't think there is anything to do there if you're under the age of 40 and don't surf or take pictures. Or knit or something.
We had really good waves for the first two days while we were there, with just a few of us out. And then the S.A team came out of nowhere just to form an instant crowd. yay. haha. It was cool surfing with my friends though..

Back to Kommetjie for S.A's. Really fun week! I got a second in the u17 girls, and Sarah Baum won. I think we all should've just slept at the British Bulldog we spent so much time there! hahah.

Took the loooong drive to jbay the day after S.A's. My friend, mr Ty came to visit again.. oooh and my husband Morag who I hadnt seen in ages! Didn't really get waves in jbay, and it rained for like a whole week. haha.

Longest post EVER. I'm becoming a big girl!

Anyway, the roadtrip was wonderful! Thanks Parentals!
Peace and Heart
